Their spirits live among us, ageless, tireless, they are here to inspire us.

The dim, smoky air of the New Orleans branch of Le Rose Noir Blind Tiger speakeasy hummed with an otherworldly orbs of energy. Behind the bar, a spectral figure tended to the drinks, Aubert Lumière Einstein. He was a wisp of light and shadow bartender, his iconic hair a halo of swirling cosmic stardust. Beside him, a woman of extraordinary intellect and equally extraordinary beauty. His barmaid, Marie-Salomé -Salomé Leclerc-Curie, her form shimmering with radioactive radiance.

They were more than mere spirits. They were beings of pure consciousness, slowed down sound and light waves, walking talking bundles of frequencies, tuned into the music of the cosmos.

"Time, my dear Marie-Salomé," Aubert mused, "is but a stubborn illusion, a trick of the mind."

Marie-Salomé, her blue eyes twinkling with cosmic understanding, nodded. "A persistent worldly illusion, indeed. A human construct, a feeble attempt to grasp the infinite."

The duo worked in logical scientific-like harmony. Their spectral forms weaving through the fumé comme un poisson smoky haze, pouring drinks and offering philosophical musings. Their Cajun Chronicles Podcast patrons waiting for the meeting of minds were checking their corps with the vestiaire girl at the door.

All of them were completely aware of their true nature. All arrived early, they were drawn to Aubert’s and Marie-Salomé’s enigmatic présences at le comptoir bar. Their words of wisdom, and the peculiar glow that seemed to emanate from their very beings was a comfort to all of the staff after having to don their burdensome humanoid outfits in between meetings.

The first to orbit up to le tabouret de bar (bar stool) was Etienne Forest, interrupting Aubert and Marie-Salomé’s murmur of hushed conversation and the clink of ice in glasses. He was the lone being sitting at the bar, his droopy doodle head bowed, a flicker of despair in his eyes.

Suddenly, a second presence materialized beside him, a feminine wisp of smoke coalescing into the spirit form of Vivienne Robichaux. Her fauteuil roulant steed left back at the door and her mischievous grin as recognizable as ever.

"A fine evening for contemplation, isn't it?" Aubert's voice was a gentle rumble, a stark contrast to his imposing intellect.

Etienne looked up, startled. "You . . . you're . . . " he stammered.

"A votre service,” Aubert chuckled, "A rougarou swamp ghost you were expecting, perhaps? Or a particularly eccentric Marie Loup-Garou patron. What troubles you, young Rebel Rouser?"

Etienne hesitated, then poured out his woes. A failed podcast no-show interviewee, a broken guitar string in the middle of a song while performing, and the weight of the world seemed to rest on his shoulders.

Even if he dared think about the headlines of today, 2025 was already promising to be a “descendre en trombe” fall, descending like a whirlwind for everything had been working on for years. Time might be running out for the entire planet!

Aubert listened patiently, his brown eyes twinkling with understanding. "Ah, the burdens of having to mingle and orbsplain with humanity," he mused. "A complex equation, indeed." Aubert turned his back to the bar, “Excusez-moi!” as his spectral hand reaching for a Viognier wine bottle for Vivienne.

"The best way to cheer yourself up, you see, is to cheer someone else up." He poured Vivienne’s preferred drink, the liquid shimmering as it filled the glass.

"We all know a small act of kindness, a shared laugh, can ripple through the universe, altering its course in the most unexpected ways.

La prochaine tournée c’est toi qui payes, d’accord? You pay for the next round, OK?”

Etienne gulped and took the free drink, a wry smile playing on his lips. "You're a strange one, Aubert."

"Strange, perhaps," Aubert replied. "But effective." He raised his own shot glass, both making a silent spinning orb toast to the mysteries of the universe and the simple joys of laughing at their human connection woes. Santé! Tchin tchin! (Cheers!)

This tale is inspired by real New Orleans history, but some details have been spiced up for a good story. While we've respected the truth, a bit of creative license was used. Please note that all characters may be based on real people, but their identities in some cases have been Avatar masked for privacy.

A Word of Wisdom:

As you read, remember history and real life is a complex mix of joy, sorrow, triumph, and tragedy. While we've added a bit of fiction, the core message remains: the human spirit's power to endure, adapt, and overcome.
